Renting out in Telangana: the rules
- Where the Telangana Buildings (Lease, Rent and Eviction) Control Act, 1960 applies, the advance can be at most one month's rent.
- The Act does not cover a building for 15 years after it was built or substantially renovated, or one whose rent was over ₹3,500 a month in a municipal corporation area when the 2005 amendment came in.
- A lease for more than a year, or from year to year, must be registered.
- A lease of under a year pays 0.4% stamp duty and a 0.2% registration fee on the total rent.
From the Telangana Buildings (Lease, Rent and Eviction) Control Act, 1960 (sections 7 and 32), section 17 of the Registration Act, 1908, and the ready reckoner of the Registration and Stamps Department, Telangana.
